I love mixes. I listen to them a lot. I’m not so sad that i have a top ten, not even a mental one. I have a rotation though, i honestly don’t think a two week period passes when i don’t stick on Shambhala by Excision, and the mix that Breakage did for FACT has been played every week since it dropped.

A good mix brings you places, ups and downs and in an outs. It contains moments of peace and power, angst and confidence. That said, my main criteria for liking a mix is a simple one. “Did i enjoy it”. Sometimes, the way people discuss mixes makes me wonder if they actually like music at all. Seeming to attack every perceived flaw and weak spot with an axe. I’m a more basic, simple, cerebral kind of person. I’ll only realise how much i actually enjoyed a mix AFTER the fact, while it’s on i am just listening to it, lost in the flow of tracks that someone was kind enough to take the time to put together.

I’ve found some nice ones over the last year, and have lined them all up in a row for you, all you gotta do is hit play.

Eleven Tigers – December Live 2009

I feel kind of bad for linking to this, as it was done for another blog, but the man himself popped it up on his Soundcloud so what the hell.  A blissful, assured and confident selection of electronica. This is currently getting daily playage from me.

Erwtenpeller – War of the Worlds

This is riding high in my hindbrain for a nod as my mix of the year. Firstly , i am biased as hell towards favouring anything got to do with War of the Worlds ( Tom Cruises being short was saved by Tim Robbins being crazy for example ) and secondly, it’s a superb mix. The classic story of War of the Worlds unfolds to some of the greatest and most interesting Dubstep you will hear. A mix packed with great tunes, which as a whole becomes more than the sum of it’s parts. And that is saying something when the parts prod this much buttock.

    The LSDJ – Nocturnal Dub

Honestly not a lot to say here. Great tune selection, great mixing, great mix. A sleeper too, i honestly forget how much i enjoy this until i go back and listen to it again.

    G31 – Mind the Dubstep

A kickass mix from a kickass producer. End of.

16bit – Tokyo Set Menu Mix

Bugger all you can say about 16bit other than “awesome”. Yeah, this mix has been about for a while, but i only copped it recently. Shame on me!

Once again you can colour me guilty of pushing music i like. A brutal crime i know. I can’t say it’s good because it’s cool to say it’s good. I can’t say it’s good to win favour. All i can do is honestly say that Nit Grit’s music makes me want to find God…..so i can punch him in the face. It amps me up so hard my girlfriend laughs at me. It amps me up so hard i remember the days when I could move weights in the gym that make me cry to think about now. It’s just BIG music….for getting amped up to. It’s not without it’s musical, structural and melodical sensibilities either. Deal of the century if you ask me.

Anyway, i annoyed Nit Grit until he relented to letting me mix his stuff, I even got him answering some questions for us in the process.

Q and A is below, mix is below that. Double Decker Awesome.

How long have you been into music? What was it that drew you to Dubstep in particular?

I’ve been making music since I was about 14, mainly playing guitar and other string instruments. Anything I could get my hands on. I didn’t start messing with electronic music and production till I was about 19. I’ve always been attracted to the more aggressive style of electronic music like drum and bass, breakcore, glitch, and IDM, so naturally that’s what I made. My brother was actually the one that turned me on to dubstep about a year ago, and ever since then I’ve been hooked. I was blown away by how dubstep fused perfectly with many other genres and styles so that every artist had a very distinct sound. It was very inspiring so I thought I should give it a shot. I started NiT GriT as a side project at first, but it soon became my main focus. I have only been producing dubstep since April, but I think both my style and sound are finally starting to take form.

What Producers are rocking your speakers when you are not working on your own stuff?

Oh man… Mimosa, Excision, Datsik, Stenchman, Bar 9, Joker, Roommate, Babylon System, Bird of Prey, Access To Arasaka, Glitch Mob, Eskmo/Welder, Kilowatts, Mochipet, Cookie Monsta, Venetian Snares, Wisp….The list goes on and on….

What has been your most awesome moment to date?

I don’t know if I know of any one particular moment, but a series of awesome things that has happened this last month or two. Within a short period of time I’ve found my way into various blogs, broadcasted on international radio stations, and included in an unending number of mixes. It has been completely surreal. It’s almost hard for me to take in. But I think the thing that has had the most impact on me is the positive feedback I get from my music. When someone comes to you and tells you how much they appreciate your music, It makes every hour of tedious edits and grinding away at a track completely worth it.

What are your plans for future releases?

As long as people are listening, I’m going to keep pushing out tracks. I haven’t done much in the way of promotion, although I definitely want to get my music out there. That being said, I’m looking to expand my horizons beyond Soundcloud and Myspace to something on a more professional level.

Any chance of a live show?

Soon… very soon. Hopefully within few months… I have seen the production side and now I want to experience what its like playing for people live. I will keep you updated.

Time flies, and I cant believe this week is almost over already. But in order to end this week in a good way you have to make sure to listen to the following mixes. Starting with two mixes by Zoze. This 24 year old guy from Israel wouldn’t describe himself as a Dj but more as a guy who just love’s to mix his favorite tracks. This is resulting in a mixture of nice tracks with lots of variation in tempo.

Zoze – Not a dream at all

    Zoze – Winter Set

The third mix is actually already on the web for a couple of weeks but still nice to share: “The Milky Pie Mix” by two of my favorite producers at the moment, 16Bit!

16Bit – The Milky Pie Mix

    tracklist

And on #4 we have a recording of  this weeks StupidFlyRecords radio show. Starts slow and mellow but gets louder and bassier till the walls start shaking.

December the 3th show on StupidFlyRecords Radio

The fifth and last mix for today is made by Modeliszt (France) for radio zerozero, this 28 minute minimix includes tracks by Torror Danjah, 2562, Gemmy and many more, Listen and enjoy!
