Allow me to introduce an exceptionally productive producer from Breda (NL), who goes by the name Coco Bryce. Some of you might remember him from sharing a vinyl slab with the likes of Slugabed. He recently released his free to download album called “At the Chopping Mall” on Myor.

Comes To Mind – Josip Klobucar Rmx – Coco Slyce Werk by Myor

When asked to deliver a brief personal statement, Coco declared:

“Uhm, dunno man, I hang around the LowRiders Collective, that kinda stuff. Oh yeah, I spin at Generation Bass and Impakt Festival.

As far as producing is concerned, believe me, I’m a tinkerer with weird ideas and sometimes a bit of luck [aren't we all, ed.].Thomas de Rijk-HALP came over to my place last week to work on a couple of remixes and he showed me some tricks on Ableton Live (r)… stood speechless… suddenly realized again how little I know about the software…

The track ["Comes to Mind", ed.] was more or less built like this: sliced up the original tune in Live, then simply **ed around with the different bits until i found something I liked. Programmed a beat and then severely compressed the chopped slices, side-chaining the compressor to the beat as to gently squeeze the slices and the beats together.

That’s pretty much all there is to it, and then of course, just tinker until it sounds good!”

C_dr_c (Cédric Brunet), an old pal of mine from our time at the conservatory in Den Haag.
He started out as a kick-ass fusion drummer and now he’s busy on the Amsterdam dubstep/glitch-hop scene (mainly within the viral radio network).

    C_dr_c – Chilling Before Hell

Moresounds’ track was originally dug up by C_dr_c himself; I’d like to thank and welcome both to da fammily.

    Moresounds – Sour Demons

    Wonky Wednesday

Wonky Wednesday is an initiative prompted by the infatigable Charly & Gallus (Antilounge, Dirty Agga Crew, B.A.F,…) in collaboration with our very own DJ Tomlaan (Stripewaves) and the good people of Cafe’ De Vinger in Den Haag.

It’s gonna be an intensive session – Charly & Gallus, Tomlaan, and other DJ’s will be mixing the deepest, chewiest dubstep with the musical phenomenon officiously tagged “stuiterbeats” by Gallus himself (other sources refer to this as “glitch-hop”, others “experimental hiphop”, yet others as “fidget beats” although the latter is closer to the minimal scene).

“Stuiterbeats” is an array of techniques for producing asymmetric incomplete measures: the musical result is a downtempo “stuttering” or rather “limping” rhythmic pattern (technically, the beats would have time signatures like 15/16, or 21/16, or worse).

The decomposition techniques are often applied to hiphop-backbeat-like samples, and I seem to recognize an aesthetic agreement on accentuating the vinyl noise on the beats.

These techniques are being pioneered by artists such as Flying Lotus, Slugabed, Hudson Mohawke, Dorian Concept, Joker, and to some extent, historically, on some Richard Devine experimental tracks [could someone fill me on this one please?]

Sometimes I just have the feeling that dubstep is still spreading more rapidly than the H1N1 Virus. But instead of sending somebody to the hospital its actually a good thing to find new dubstep-infected people. Take NiT GriT (Danny Beall) for example, this 23 year old guy from San Jose, California has been making electronic music for 4 years under the name of Sloth Logic but started producing dubstep since April. His major influences have always been the more aggressive styles of music (Breakcore, IDM, Glitch, Grime, Drum&Bass, ect..) And you can defiantly hear this in his latest productions. Check out his work below and experience it yourself.

Time for some new Soundcloud Drops!

Starting off with two new tracks by Milyoo!

    Milyoo – Rhizomes

    Milyoo – Hauntee

Lets continue with Nilow, Nilow is a Dubstep/Drum n Bass Dj and Producer from Berlin, Germany. Nine years ago he came in contact with Drum n Bass. He immediately loved this massive sound and starting to search for more music with deep and dirty bass lines until he came in contact with Dubstep, resulting in buying turntables to spin some records and later on creating his own productions. Nilow has a nice easy-going sound and besides his own productions he also likes to remix tracks. Below you’ll find one of his remixes, for more tracks please visit his Soundcloud

Edith Piaf – Non je ne Regrette Rien (Nilow Remix)

And there is more. Currently living in Breda, the Netherlands, DisPjutR started making electronic music in a rather silly way. To be precise: somewhere in the summer of 1997 with a friend he covered a pan with some kitchenfoil, and recorded beating it with a pen in windows soundrecorder for later manipulation with said software. From there, DisPjutR started searching the web for music production information and started trying out different music software. Having had no formal education in music production, and no understanding of all the unfamiliar terms, it took a lot of experimenting before getting at creating beats and songs.

Nowadays, he himself describes the music as a mix of Breaks, IDM & Bass. His own favourite musical genres being Drum n Bass, Breakcore, IDM and Dubstep, it is easy to hear most of his inspiration flows from there, but not all! For DisPjutR some inspiration generally comes from things in everyday life. And as he is an avid believer that Music should not have constraints, in any way. I Selected some work which I feel represent more than just one side of his productions, enjoy.

DisPjutR and Bots – Luihi’s Theme

DisPjutR – Stop Hiding Start Wobblin’

    DisPjutr – Killing 1500 Birds

And a bit more to the north we have Rotterdam. Operating from Rotterdam, Kaizoku produces some nice dubstep tracks. Kaizoku is a collabaration between Dr. Fezz, Vivace and Sinus Sawtooth,

    Kaizoku – The Outbreak

    Kaizoku – A Doomed Planet

Lets end with two sets by Factiss, Influenced by Hip hop, Glitch hop, Dubstep and more Factiss mixes his tracks with his laptop and a Vestax VCI300. Below you will find his latest recordings. These two and more sets are available for download on his Soundcloud.

    Factiss – Bassline Breaky

    Factiss – Mixture
